10 Things You Should Know Before Hiring Me

or any Personal Trainer

  1. Qualifications:  Make sure the trainer has a reputable certification.  More than one is even better. Especially certifications that require continuing education.  “ I attend various workshops and classes throughout the year that keep me current on fitness trends and the latest research.”

  2. Experience:   While formal education is important, experience with clients is vital.  Ask to speak with current clients for references and check out their testimonials.

  3. Specialties:  Some trainers focus on specific clients.  If you want to lose weight and increase flexibility, maybe the best fit is not a trainer that specializes in helping high-performing athletes improve their performance.

  4. Interview:  Before scheduling a workout meet with the trainer to see if you are a good fit.  “I offer a free/complimentary consultation.”  If your trainer isn’t asking questions and is talking more than you are, maybe you should reconsider.  Part of being an effective trainer is being a good listener.

  5. Network:  Getting healthy isn’t only about working out.  Find out if your trainer has a great referral source for nutrition, chiropractic care, massage, and even psychotherapy.  A good trainer is a team player because one person can’t do it all.  Specialists are key to your health and wellness.  “Check out my Who is Super Girl page to meet my team.”

  6. Rates:  Avoid trainers who are only focused on single high priced sessions.  Getting fit and healthy takes time depending on your starting point.  A good trainer will have options for one, three, or six-month programs and offer a discount for more sessions purchased.  “I offer packages that include a money back guarantee!”

  7. Affordability:  Even if you cannot afford one on one private sessions, some trainers offer semi private training and group class options that are more affordable. “I offer sessions for two people and super fun group classes that will get you amazing results.”

  8. Flexibility:  Your trainer shouldn’t have a ‘one-size fits all’ program.  You may not need personal attention 3x a week.   “I have many clients that visit me once a week or even once a month.  I have created workouts they can do on their own. They record their own progress and we discuss the program when we meet.  Then I create another workout for the next few weeks. It is a much more affordable option and is still very effective providing you do your homework.”

  9.  Fun:  Except for a little hard work, going to your training sessions should be fun.  If you are dreading the workouts and are too sore to even walk the next day then you should reconsider.  An effective training program doesn’t have to be a horribly painful experience.

  10. Results!  Your trainer should be focused on getting the results you want and help you achieve your goals.  “I track your progress and offer a money back guarantee.”
